Peter was attending the "Warrington Free Grammar School" in 1851. From The Manchester Courier And Lancashire General Advertiser of 12 March 1870: "Marriages - CHRIMES - BOULTON March 10, at the Cathedral, by the Rev. J.M. Elvy. M.A., Peter, second son of the late Alderman Chrimes, of Warrington, to Maria Stanley, youngest daughter of Thomas R. Boulton, of Lower Broughton." From The London Gazette of 4 January 1881: "Notice is hereby given, that the Partnership between us the undersigned, Joseph Chrimes and Peter Chrimes, in the business of Brewers, heretofore carried on by us at the Mersey Brewery, at Warrington, in the County of Lancaster, under the firm of Joseph and Peter Chrimes, has this day been dissolved by mutual consent; and that the said business will in future be carried on by the undersigned, Joseph Chrimes alone, on his own account and that the said Joseph Chrimes, who is now entitled to all the partnership assets, will receive and pay all monies, debts and liabilities, owing to or by the firm. Signed this 31st day of December, 1880: Joseph Chrimes [b.1840], Peter Chrimes [b.1842]". After the death of his first wife Maria Stanley in 1887, Peter re-married to Mary Ann PICTON in 1889. I cannot find Peter on the 1891 UK Census Peter may have been a funeral director in 1894, as presumed from the report of a Warrington funeral in The Widnes Examiner of 21 July 1894: "... The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. Peter Chrimes, who gave every satisfaction." From The Warrington Examiner of 14 November 1903: "....Peter Chrimes, the licensee of the Roebuck Hotel, Bridge-street, was summoned for permitting drunkenness on his premises... Mr. Chrimes had kept the house since February 1895, without any complaint whatever. ... the Bench had decided to dismiss the case, on payment of costs." From The Warrington Examiner of 27 May 1905: "Death of Mr. Peter Chrimes - We regret to announce that Mr. Peter Chrimes, licencee of the Roebuck Hotel, Bridge-street, died on Thursday. The deceased gentleman, who had been ailing for a long time, was the son of the late Mr. Joseph Chrimes who was Mayor of the Borough in 1885-6-7. He had for many years been treasurer of the Old Folks' Treat Committee." From The Warrington Examiner of 3 June 1905: "FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. P. CHRIMES The funeral of the late Mr. Peter Chrimes, of the Roebuck Hotel, Bridge-street, took place at the Warrington Cemetery on Monday Afternoon. The large attendance testifying to the respect in which the deceased was held. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. Bracecamp. The chief mourners were:- Mr. Harrison Chrimes (brother), Messrs. Bolton, Isaac and Yarwood (brothers-in-law), ..." Peter's Probate record reads: "CHRIMES Peter of the Roebuck Hotel Bridge Street Warrington licensed victualler died 24 May 1905 Probate Liverpool 21 June to Mary Ann Chrimes widow. Effects £1759 19s 6d". The www.billiongraves.com record gives date of birth as 4 March 1841 which is unlikely to be correct. |
