On 17 December 1842 John obtained a licence to marry 'Eliza Sandhurst' so the marriage to Elizabeth SANDERS will have taken place on that day or later. The Probate record reads: "Chrimes John of Cow Lane Norley near Frodsham Cheshire died 8 September 1893 Probate Chester 5 October to John Chrimes Saddler and Joseph Chrimes farmer." John appears in the Index to Death Duty Registers. From The Chester Chronicle of 23 September 1893: "DEATH OF MR. JOHN CHRIMES.- During the last few days died the most remarkable inhabitant, John Chrimes, aged 89. He was the oldest man and the oldest Methodist in the neighbourhood, having been a consistent member for 72 years, first with the Wesleyan connection, and afterwards with the United Methodist Free Church, He was also the oldest teetotaler, having joined the first society formed. He was also the oldest Liberal, and the oldest ratepayer. He died as he lived, beloved by all." John left a will dated 1893 accessible at FamilySearch.org |
