W▮▮▮▮▮ J▮▮▮▮ is known from the obituary of his grandmother Kate Ellen FENTON. From The Propeller Hurstville NSW of 29 January 1942: "SURPRISE PARTY TO SOLDIER Mr. W. M. Currey, V.C., M.L.A. for Kogarah, was present at a surprise party tendered to Private Frank Miller of the A.I.F. by his parents and friends last Saturday evening in the Boomerang Hall, Sans Souci ... The artists included ... Messrs. H▮▮▮▮▮ and W▮▮▮▮▮ Chrimes (banjo duet)..." From The Sydney Morning Herald of 3 February 1945: "ROSS [sic] - MORRISON. The Engagement is announced of E▮▮▮▮▮, youngest daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. G. Morrison of Lakomba [?] to W▮▮▮▮▮ J▮▮▮▮, youngest son of Mr. & Mrs. A Chrimes late of Brighton-le-Sands." This raises a problem in estimating W▮▮▮▮▮ J▮▮▮▮' birth year. His parents married in 1933, but W▮▮▮▮▮ J▮▮▮▮ must have been born before that. Also, given his description as 'youngest son', his brother H▮▮▮▮▮ must have been born even earlier. Based on the name given at marriage, it is probable that W▮▮▮▮▮ J▮▮▮▮ and H▮▮▮▮▮ are the children of Dorothy Maude Ross nee JUDD. They may not in fact have the name CHRIMES, except by informal association. To be confirmed. |
