I cannot find John on the 1850 or 1860 US Federal Census. The fact that John named his first son Oscar Dudley implies that he is descended from George CRYMES b.1766 and Nancy DUDLEY. He is connected to his parents on that basis only, and acknowledging that his present-day descendants have been unable to confirm his parentage despite extensive research over many years. From the Find-a-Grave record: "John Crymes' exact birth location in Alabama and the names of his parents remain a mystery. He initially appeared on the 1860 census living in the home of Anderson Pinkney and Lucinda Cantrell Reynolds. John spent his life as a farmer in the Lauderdale County area near Pruitton and later in St. Florian. John was married (1st) to Ellender (Ellen) Reynolds and fathered three children: Anna E., Oscar Dudley, and William Thomas Crymes. After Ellen's death, John married (2nd) to Ann Wilks. No children were born to this marriage. On John's Death Certificate, it states that he died of cancer after a six month duration. The place of internment was Piney Grove "Blackburn Beat". Adjacent to his grave is the burial location of his grandson, Tommie Lee Crymes, the son of Oscar and Mattie Crymes. [In remembrance by John and Ellen Reynolds Crymes' great granddaughter.]" |
