Lillian Olivia's obituary reads: "Lillian Olivia Crymes was the sixth child and second daughter of Oscar Dudley and Mattie Fern Clemmons Crymes. With the childhood death of an older brother, Tommie Lee, Lillian became the middle child of the nine remaining children. Lillian lived and, eventually, worked with her parents and siblings on their farm land in the St. Florian area of Lauderdale Co., AL. She attended school at the St. Florian School and the Church of Christ. When her parents moved their family to Nashville, TN, Lillian worked in numerous factories before and during the years around WW II. At one point Lillian worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Vultee-Nashville. When the War ended in 1945, Lillian married Robert Arthur Mayfield, an Army soldier. Robert (Bob) had passed through the Nashville area in 1942 while on maneuvers and they had continued to correspond while Bob served in Europe. After their marriage in Nashville, TN, Lillian and Bob moved to Columbia, SC where their three children were born. Their middle child, Bobby Ray, was their only son. His short life of only nine days brought a great loss to his parents. Lillian, Bob and Bobby Ray Mayfield were buried south of Gaffney, SC in a small family plot. Bob and his family had lived and attended church in the area. [In remembrance by her daughters.]" |
