Nancy's full name comes from the marriage register entry, though there is a conflicting BMD index record for Nanny [sic] DYSON. Following the death of her husband Edward in 1871, Nancy became proprietor of the pawnbroker business. Nancy appears in several 'Manchester Rate Books' records as owner of a property at 98 Stretford Road, Hulme between 1872 and 1886 and as owner/occupier of 113 Duke Street, Hulme between 1876 and 1880. It is possible that from 1881 Nancy lived with her daughter Jane at 113 Duke Street until her death, thus not appearing as 'Occupier' for rates. Nancy appears on the Index to Death Duty Registers for 1886 as 'Crimes, Nancy of Moss Side. Executor Jane Roberts [her daughter]' |
