May Mary Alice was named Mary Alice at birth. In the 1911 census, May was still single, aged 27 and living with her parents Thomas and Harriet and her sister Lily back in Norley. Corinne Margaret Chrimes née SLADE states that May Mary Alice did not marry, and that she died aged "in her 90s". Searching the death records 1970 - 1985 reveals a 1977 Birkenhead record for Mary Alice CHRIMES (not otherwise allocated) giving date of birth as 27 July 1887. The birthday could well be correct but the birth year is wrong. This is not surprising for someone without husband or children to act as informant. The informant, when asked for May Mary Alice's age, probably said "about 90" which would result in this record. I have therefore assigned this death record to May Mary Alice which has been subsequently confirmed by the Grant of Probate. May Mary Alice's Grant of Probate reads: "CHRIMES, Mary Alice of 23 Queensbury Grange West Kirby Wirral Merseyside died 23 November 1977 Probate Liverpool 17 May [1978] £41409" |
