The www.FamilySearch.org record of Alice's marriage gives her age as 18 whereas she was in fact only 15. The groom was declared as aged 30. In the 1891 England Census Alice gave her correct age of 22 and gave William's age as 48! Alice died in Pennsylvania, USA, from accidental scalding. There can be no doubt that the Death Certificate relates to this Alice. The informant on the Death Certificate was Alice YARNALL, Alice's daughter, who clearly also emigrated to United States. The 1910 US Federal Census declares that William and Alice immigrated to the United States in 1891 but I have not found any travel records to confirm this. From The Scranton Truth of 5 July 1911: "Woman Dies As A Result Of Burns - Mrs. Alice Yarnall passes away at hospital - As a result of being scalded while lifting a boiler of hot water from the kitchen stove at her home a few days ago Mrs. Alice Yarnall, of 1420 Dartmouth street, died at the West Side hospital yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Yarnall was 47 years of age and is survived by her husband and several children. The funeral was held this afternoon, interment being made in the Washburn street cemetery. Mrs. Yarnall was badly burned about her neck, arms and body when the boiling water spilled over her and lay in great agony at the hospital until death relieved her suffering yesterday afternoon." |
