William Thomas was named GRIMES at birth and in the 1901 UK Census, but used the name CRIMES at his marriage and in the 1921 England Census. A 1918 newspaper article refers to William's WWI service: "William, aged 24, after having been wounded in France, is now working in the land, and before joining up worked at the Shropshire Union." In the 1921 England Census William Thomas's name was declared to be 'W S'. James does not appear on the 1921 England Census with his wife and child. He is instead recorded as living with his parents. In 1921 William Thomas was employed by S.U. [Shropshire Union] Rly. and Canal Coy. of Ellesmere Port. |
