Samuel Turner's Birth Certificate makes it clear that his father was Samuel (Turner) CRIMES b.1848 but the mother was declared to be "Alice Chrimes formerly Adams". Samuel Turner's father's wife at the time was Alice LOWE. It is possible that Adams was a previous married name of his mother Alice, entered incorrectly on his Birth Certificate. Samuel Turner's year of birth sits neatly between births of his siblings, they recorded as children of Alice LOWE. Samuel Turner was subsequently to become a foster child. His sister Daisy Lilian was also living in another household, also in Kent, in 1911 so perhaps following the death of Samuel Turner's father in 1906, Alice LOWE was unable to look after the children and had to place them in care. Samuel Turner was named CHRIMES at his birth but in the 1911 England Census he was named CRIMES. In the 1911 England Census Samuel Turner was declared as "Foster Child". His death record is indexed as both CHRIMES and CRIMES. |
