Samuel Arthur attended St Thomas's Infants School, King Street, Dudley from 1884.
In 1901 Samuel Arthur was aged 19 still single living with his parents.
Samuel Arthur was declared as "Arthur" in 1884, 1901, 1911 and 1929, perhaps because his father's name was Samuel.
Arthur was conscripted into military service during World War I but refused to obey orders, on the grounds of being a 'conscientious objector'. See Imperial War Museums (IWM) website https://livesofthefirstworldwar.iwm.org.uk/ for details of Arthur's imprisonment and Court Martial. IWM cite as their source: The Pearce Register of British WW1 Conscientious Objectors.
From The Dudley Chronicle of 25 March 1916: "APPEAL TRIBUNAL at DUDLEY. The Fate of Conscientious Objectors ... A Peculiar Objection - In the case of Arthur Chrimes (34), a tailor, Col. Higgs-Walker was particularly severe in his comments. The applicant declared that ever since the Boer War he had had a conscientious objection to war. Col. Higgs-Walker, after saying the case was pretty well known locally, put a series of questions as to the tailoring work applicant did, asking him if he had to live on the work he did, would he not come badly off? Was he not an owner of property, and would his family strongly object if he had to go. Applicant said he belonged to the Church of England, but the Colonel said applicant belonged to none of the recognised religious bodies, and ridiculed his conscientious claims. As a young man applicant ought to go. Applicant: Not quite a young man. I don't consider myself so. Appeal dismissed."
From The Police Gazette of 30 May 1916: "ABSENTEES under the MILITARY SERVICE ACT Chrimes, Arthur Age:34 Trade:tailrs cuttr Normanton House, 2, Parade, Dudley. Desertion: 1 May at Worcester"
In the 1921 England Census 'Arthur', single, was living with his widowed mother. Also in the household was 'Servant' Emily DYSON.
In the 1921 England Census 'Arthur' was declared to have no occupation.
Samuel Arthur's Grant of Probate record reads: "CHRIMES Samuel Arthur of 2 Westcliffe Terrace North Furzeham Road Brixham Devon died 1 March 1960 at The Hospital Brixham Probate Exeter 27 April to Emily Mary Dyson spinster. Effects £1879 2s. 11d."
