From a newspaper of Saturday 8 April 1944 (contributed by S Clayton): "[PHOTOGRAPH] Wirralian Reported Lost. Flying Officer O.K. Chrimes of 30a, Oteley avenue, Bromborough, a 21-years-old bomber navigator, is reported drowned in the English Channel when his plane made a forced landing in the sea. F/O Chrimes went to Grove Street School, New Ferry, and won a scholarship to the Wirral Grammar School, where he matriculated. On leaving school he became a member of the general office staff of the Birkenhead Co-operative Society and joined the A.T.C. In February 1942 he joined the R.A.F. and went abroad under the Empire training scheme, returning with the rank of Pilot Officer."
