In the 1921 England Census, Florence Ethel, 'servant', was employed by The Dowager Countess Roden (widow). Davenham 'Cottage' had 16 rooms! From The Winsford Chronicle of 28 July 1945: "NORTHWICH STREET COLLISION - I.C.I. CAR DRIVER FINED. A collision between a motor-car and a motor-cycle in Witton-street, resulting in the motor-cyclist and his pillion rider being knocked over, was described at the Northwich Petty Sessions on Tuesday, when Florence Ethel Chrimes [sic], Field Farm, Davenham, was fined 20s and £1 11s 6d. costs for driving a car without due care and attention.... Defendant said she had been driving cars for I.C.I. (Alkali) Ltd., for nearly four years and had an unblemished record... " |
